For most people, hypertension is a condition that should be diagnosed regularly in order to help prevent future illness. But for kidney transplant patients, uncontrolled hypertension can be particularly dangerous—no less for pediatric patients than for adults. In a recently published article in the journal Pediatric Nephrology, Blood pressure profile in renal transplant recipients and its relation to diastolic function: tissue Doppler echocardiographic, Dr. Mitra Basiratnia and the staff at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences describe the dangers this way:

“Arterial hypertension is a common consequence after renal transplantation. It is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular events, graft failure, proteinuria, and death.”

SunTech Medical was invited to present at the 4th annual meeting for China International Medical Electronics Technology. Along with prominent multinational companies like Freescale, Microsoft, and Texas Instruments, and well-known national medical device companies like Landwind, SunTech presented on the broad trends as well as the technical detail that must be addressed in the competitive industry of medical devices in China and abroad. Peter Zhang, Sales Manager for SunTech Medical in Greater China, spoke to a crowd of nearly 300 development engineers and business development managers on the clinical and regulatory challenges in developing medical devices measuring blood pressure. September 27, 2010 – Raleigh, NC – Athena GTX®, a developer of innovative trauma care products, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the WVSM™ device, its new compact, patient-worn vital signs monitor.

Originally developed for the U.S. military, the WVSM™ is an innovative device that automatically measures blood pressure, pulse rate, blood oxygenation, and critical cardiac functions from point of injury through transport to a treatment center.  Feedback from military testing revealed that early monitoring, trending, and recording of vital signs improve the survival rates of soldiers.
