ABPM
ABPM FAQs
Why Use Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring?
Diagnosing and treating hypertension is serious business, and as research shows, ABPM is far superior to other testing available to clinicians. ABPM provides valuable diagnostic information that in-clinic and home blood pressure monitoring systems are incapable of measuring including:
-
BP variability and a more accurate estimation of true blood pressure
-
Overnight changes in blood pressure (dipper status)
-
Morning surges in blood press
In general, ABPM is recognized in the medical community as a valuable tool for supporting the management of appropriate pharmacologic treatment as well as the assessment of:
-
"White coat” hypertension, when elevated blood pressure measurements are recorded in the physican’s office environment while blood pressure readings outside the physician’s office are within a normal range.
-
Resistant hypertension, when multiple anti-hypertensive medications fail to adequately control high blood pressure.
-
Masked hypertension, when in-office measurements fall within an acceptable range, but the mean blood pressure is actually above the acceptable range.
-
Hypotensive symptoms with hypertensive medications.
The diagnostic test begins with fitting a patient with a portable monitor and BP cuff. The patient leaves and returns the next day. Over this period of time, the monitor takes measurements periodically as programmed by the clinician, generally each 15-30 minutes during awake hours and 30-45 minutes during sleeping hours.
Utilizing our ABP monitor - Oscar 2 or Oscar 2 with SphygmoCor Inside - the patient returns and these measurements are transferred to a computer where they can be easily viewed and documented in a report using the AccuWin Pro™ software. You are then able to see the full picture when it comes to assessing blood pressure and diagnosing hypertension in your patient. The results of ABP monitoring provide the most comprehensive representation of a patient’s complete blood pressure profile.
When the complete picture is what you need, we are here to provide you with just that. Our ABPM devices don’t miss a step – so you won’t either.

Orbit BP Cuff FAQs
Why is it important to use the correct size cuff on my patients?
SunTech Medical Cuffs are designed to meet the AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) clinical standards for blood pressure cuffs. These standards were devised in order to ensure adequate pressure on the artery of the upper arm, which is necessary to produce an accurate blood pressure measurement. If a cuff is used on an arm larger than the specified range, the resulting reading will be falsely high. If a cuff is used on an arm that is smaller than the specified range, the resulting reading will be falsely low.

SunTech CT40 FAQs
What is the expected battery life for the SunTech CT40?
When batteries are fully charged, the SunTech CT40 is designed to run on internal battery power for 120 measurement cycles (BP, temperature and SpO2 measurements) before requiring recharge. When only the bottom segment of the battery symbol is illuminated, there is between 11 percent and 40 percent battery power remaining.
Will the device automatically power down?
When no measurements have been taken or buttons pressed for one hour, the device will automatically power-down and enter the low-power state and is considered “off.”
What is the significance of different beeps I hear during operation?
One long beep (approximately 3-second beep): Successful end of BP measurement.
Three long beeps: Severe hardware error.
One short beep (1-second beep): Power-up or Power-down complete.
Four short beeps: There has been an error.
If you abort a BP measurement by pressing the Start/Stop button, you will hear one short beep. Then after the pressure has been completely dumped from the cuff, you will hear one long beep.
Can pulse oximetry, temperature measurement, a barcode scanner or printer be added later too?
Yes, you can add vital signs modules and accessories to the SunTech CT40 at any time.
Can EMR connectivity be established at a later date if not enabled as part of initial configuration?
Yes, EMR settings can be accessed via the Advanced Configuration Application at any time.
Why are no MAP measurements showing on the display?
The ability to measure MAP must be turned on using the Advanced Configuration Application. It is turned off by default at the factory. If MAP is enabled, the results will alternate with heart rate results on the display screen. Note that MAP results are only validated for use outside of the United States.
Why is no heart rate data showing on the display?
If the device is configured to use the SpO2 sensor as the pulse rate source, and the sensor is not attached to the patient, there will not be heart rate data on the display. Only dashes will appear, or MAP results if MAP measurement is enabled.
How many measurements can be stored in the SunTech CT40 memory?
The SunTech CT40 can store 99 unique sets of measurements. After the 99th measurement has been saved, the next measurement will have the Memory Location Identifier label “01” and will overwrite the most recent measurement (measurement 99). . After all results are cleared from the memory, the Memory Location Identifier also will return to “01.”
Does the CT40 use encryption?
Yes, the CT40 offers end to end SSL encryption from the CT40 to the EMR system. If SSL is selected, no plain text data is transferred between the CT40 and the EMR system. SSL can be selected using the Advanced Configuration Application (see document 80-0072-00-MO).
When data is transferred by WiFi to a hospital information system is the data encrypted?
WPA(2) WiFi encryption may be used to provide encryption on the wireless link for any data transmitted over the WiFi. WPA(2) encryption only encrypts the wireless portion of the transfer, data on the wired hospital network is unencrypted. To ensure end to end encryption, SSL must be used.
Is the data on the CT40 encrypted?
The data contained within the CT40 is not encrypted, but it is protected via password and/or encrypted communication channels.

Why do Plus cuffs have a larger range than a Long cuff?
- Range of fit depends on cuff bladder size.
- According to the American Heart Association, the ideal cuff should have a bladder length that is 80% and a width that is at least 40% of arm circumference. [1] When arm circumference is large, these dimensions are impractical, which has prompted the AHA to suggest adjustments to the 80%/40% rule in these cases.
- Previously, Long cuffs achieved a greater range of fit simply by providing more material to wrap around the arm. Without increasing the bladder size from the standard size cuffs, the range of fit increases, but the occlusion capability of the cuff is limited because of the limited bladder size.
- The new Plus cuffs have a larger bladder, following the AHA guidelines for large arm circumferences. This allows for a much greater range of fit, while maintaining accuracy of blood pressure measurements.

OEM NIBP
OEM NIBP FAQs
Should an oscillometric NIBP simulator be used to evaluate the accuracy of Advantage NIBP modules?
No. NIBP simulator target values should never be considered as a standard of accuracy. All NIBP simulator manuals explain or should explain that target values are approximations and should only be used for measuring repeatability. Accuracy can only be measured using human subjects as described in the accuracy requirements and test methods given in the AAMI/SP10 Standard for Automated Sphygmomanometers. All SunTech Medical NIBP algorithms are tuned specifically for use on live human or animal subjects, not NIBP simulators. Please refer to the white paper “NIBP Simulator Limits with the Advantage OEM NIBP Module Series” for more details on how simulators are to be used. Included in that paper are a description of a correct setup and a comparison of five common NIBP simulators. Further information on interaction with simulators is also available in Appendix B in the Advantage 2.0 and Mini Operators Manual.
Are the Advantage OEM BP series of modules field programmable?
The Advantage OEM Blood Pressure modules are field programmable. Additional features and improvements can now be uploaded to the module via the RS232 or TTL serial communication interface without any jumpers, special cables or complicated instructions. This saves time and money since modules no longer need to be returned to the factor every time new features or improvements become available.
Will electrical noise from the pump ever effect the acquisition of BP data?
The pump is never on while collecting data. Thus any noise generated by the pump, regardless of the model, cannot contaminate or alter the oscillometric data used to build the curve.
Other than the size, are there any differences between Advantage 2.0 and the Advantage Mini?
While there are small differences between the devices, the Mini was designed to be a functionally equivalent but physically smaller version of the 2.0, and provides the option of mounting the pump and valves separately from the electronics. All functional parts of the hardware relating to the acquisition of BP are identical. Thus with any specific version of the firmware code, operation of the two units will be identical. The Advantage 2 has RS232 and TTL serial communication interface options. The Advantage Mini has no RS232 level communications option in its original configuration, therefore it lacks the RS232 level translator chip and ancillary components. Please refer to the operator's manual for complete description, instructions, warnings, cautions and complete specifications.
